Private cataract surgery

The main advantage of private cataract surgery is that you will have your eye surgery performed by an experienced consultant eye surgeon of your choice, giving you the reassurance that your eyes are in experienced hands, meaning that you’ll get the best possible outcome with the lowest possible risk. Private cataract surgery also gives the patient the opportunity to discuss all the various pre-operative, surgery related and post-operative aspects directly with the surgeon.

The best time to have surgery is when the cataract is causing symptoms or your vision restricts your day-to-day lifestyle. Cataracts are treated by removing the cloudy lens and replacing it with an artificial lens (an intraocular implant). It may sound complicated, but it’s actually a simple, day case procedure, so you won’t even need to stay overnight. Surgery is usually performed under drop-applied local anesthetic, and you’ll probably spend approximately 3 hours in the Hospital. The operation is performed through microincisions using a technique called phacoemulsification, which uses ultrasound technology. The wounds are so small that stitches are almost never required and the recovery is very quick.

The majority of these surgeries performed by Dr. Chadha are carried out under topical anaesthesia (use of drops to numb the eye). The options of using other local anaesthesia (injection of anesthetic agent), sedation and general anaesthesia are also available.
